Charles Pachter is one of the most collected and cherished Canadian artists.
His iconic, uplifting and patriotic images have independently earned their place in the nation's museums from coast to coast.
In "Statuesque", Pachter gorgeously depicts a statue of classical Greek/Roman style lounging beneath a stunning sunset sky of tangerine, pumpkin, rust and turquoise. The statue's form, wind blown hair, and facial expression are strikingly human. The casual pose is reminiscent of Pachter's work during the late 1970's and early 80's when he'd frequently depict his friends lounging in casual scenarios - defying the avant-garde of the era, and producing work that was figurative and inherently personal.
The composition of this work juxtaposes the bright, vibrant streaks of sunset sky and cloud against the monochromatic grey body of the statue. This is an exceptionally unique example within Pachter's painting practice.
Charles Pachter is represented in both public and private collections across Canada including the Art Gallery of Ontario, The Portrait Gallery of Canada, The Royal Ontario Museum, and the McMichael Gallery. The artist has also had solo exhibitions in France, Germany, Japan, the UK, India, the United States and Bangladesh. Charles Pachter holds the prestigious position of Officer of the Order of Canada and is also a recipient of the Queen’s Jubilee medal.
